“WORD” SEARCH
TEACHER- David Field and Team
Meeting in the Choir Room
A friend may say, “maybe you need to get into better shape.” You think to yourself “my friend is probably right but I’m not sure how to get started”. This individual will probably be more successful if he engages a trainer/coach to help him along the way. In similar fashion you may want to get into better Christian shape by studying and applying the Bible but have little idea what to do or how to go about it. You could benefit from a trainer/coach to help you along the way.
This class is designed to coach Christians, new or seasoned, on how to learn from the greatest book ever written. Each week will feature an in class coaching session after the teacher has introduced the passage to be studied and the techniques to be used. You don’t have to know anything about the Bible. You will learn “word” search technologies and find yourself introduced into a world of wonder as to the expanse and power of the Scripture. At least one hour a week you will have the opportunity to “study” the Bible. You will learn about book studies, chapter studies, word studies and topic studies. You will learn how to use Bible study tools and how to think biblically.
This class is designed to get you into good Bible study shape. Confidence in your ability to understand and apply the Bible will grow. You will be able to help others and you will have familiarity with some of the best Bible study technologies and Bible translations.
Covenant Theology
Teacher-Dr. Wilfred Bellamy
Meeting in the Fellowship Hall
That sounds like a heavy title! What it specifically addresses is God’s eternal plan of redemption for His people and His communion with them – or how He has chosen to relate to them from the very beginning. Covenant theology is the Bible’s way of explaining and deepening our understanding of how the decrees of God came into being, the nature of His plan for our salvation, the incarnation, the substitutionary death of the Lord Jesus Christ, our assurance of salvation in Him, His promises given to us in His Word, the ministry of the indwelling Holy Spirit, and the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God has given His Word to His covenant people and His plan and purposes are clearly defined therein. It is therefore essential in any study of the Scriptures that one first has an understanding of their underlying message. Throughout the entire Bible there is one thematic message; it is the message of salvation by our Redeemer. The Old Testament prophesies that the Savior will come. The New Testament tells us that He has come, and all that He has done for us, and that He will come again in power and glory.
"The covenant of grace" is the most accurate and comprehensive term to describe God’s eternal plan of redemption. An understanding of this covenant will acquaint one with the central message of the Bible and at the same time provide an outline of its history and revelation.
I believe that this study will enhance our primary interest in how faithfully God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) relates to us and sustains us, our resources in Him, and what our expectations may be as we walk the walk of sanctification by His enabling grace.
